Dilemmas of the Post-Cielo Era

I'm quite surprised by the sudden influx of anonymous texters and yahoo chat mates who are constantly appearing out of nowhere as of late. I didn't expect such attention and I know I shouldn't be complaining if not for the reason that they are contacting me--- to remind me of a past that I'm too keen to get over with. Just how exactly can I move on with my life if distractions like this surface out of nowhere every now and then? Being the cynical person that I am, this certain developments only aggravate my skeptic trait.

Life indeed can be overly-morose at times. Just when I thought I'm doing a good job of keeping my nemesis at bay, it has already made its way to my bedroom ceiling. As for the passion that I once possessed or rather that possessed me, I'm aware that it's still there somewhere in the innermost depths of my system. I fear that one day it will be rekindled once I set sight on her once again.

Keep the Faith, Drop the Fear, the kid is here!

The stars seem to be well-aligned tonight for the Realtors.

    The absence of James Yap (for the TJ Giants) and Joseph Yeo (for the Realtors) proved to be a mismatch in favor of Sta Lucia as they beat Purefoods 88-76 in game 5 of the Smart-PBA All Filipino Cup Finals Sunday night at the Araneta Coliseum. Seeking their first ever All-Filipino Cup Title, Sta Lucia's mainstays proved too much for the battle-weary, mortally-wounded Purefoods side playing minus scoring leader James Yap who is serving a one-game suspension for commiting a technical foul back in game 3. Joseph Yeo, the flashy off-guard of Sta Lucia meanwhile is serving his own one-game suspension for a similar technical foul he commited in game 4 against Noy Castillo. Old hands proved to be reliable tonight for Sta Lucia with Marlou Aquino, Dennis Espino and Paolo Mendoza each contributing 12, 15 and 9 points respectively most of which came when Purefoods is trying to stage a dramatic comeback in the 4th quarter.

    Add this effort to another all-around performance by Kelly Williams who finished the game with 20 points and 16 rebounds- his 21st double-double in the conference. The 1st and 2nd quarters proved to be a seesaw battle for both squads with neither team able to lead by more than 5 until Purefoods is able to go ahead by 11 midway through the 2nd quarter only to be cut to two points 39-37 at the end of the 1st half. Leading the first-seeded Giants in lieu of James Yap is franchise player Kerby Raymundo who scored 20 points almost single-handledly carried the fight for his team most of the game despite being scoreless for almost seven minutes in the second quarter and taking ill-advised shots in the 3rd canto. Surprise starter Chico La�ete was able to provide a much needed scoring support with 10 points including successive hits from downtown in the payoff period when Purefoods is staging a comeback. Noy Castillo, Marc Pingris, Roger Yap and Rommel Adducul all made key contributions in the second and third period when Kerby Raymundo is struggling but all failed to sustain the hype they were able to establish early on. The biggest disappointment perhaps of the night at least for the Purefoods side is Peter June Simon who is expected to pick up the scoring responsibilities left by James Yap but was able to produce a measly three points- his lowest output in the conference.

    Game 6 is set to be played on Wednesday still at the Big Dome where James Yap and Joseph Yeo are expected to be back in uniform for their respected teams. Sta Lucia maybe up 3-2 but they should be wary not to underestimate a Purefoods side whose heart is unquestionable and championship experience is well-documented. In fact they were able to survive a 3-1 deficit before and they are poised to do so again with James Yap back on their fold.

Mesmerized I think is a more apt term to this state of mind I'm currently enduring. As time continues to unravel more of life's mysteries I become more and more addicted to discover what lies beyond that long and winding road. If Robert Frost is right about the idea of traveling the road less traveled by to make all the difference then I'm confident that I'm on the right track. Indeed, I have grown into a human being whose footsteps will be followed with utmost reluctance, Capt. Jack Sparrow's words seem to have been incorporated to my system, "In order for you to discover new places you have to get lost sometimes" that is what I have been doing as of late, losing myself and in turn discovering new folks and places and I'm quite satisfied with the results.

Several days into the New Year I have just returned to the academe and I must say the Holidays have given me renewed vigor and high spirit. I am so eager to start working for my new organization and one of the tasks given to me was to contact previously inactive members in the hope of convincing them back to our fold, I readily accepted though quite unsure of the impending results. The thought of contacting people with faces and personalities unknown to me added thrill and excitement to my work. With the mobile numbers safely stored in my directory, I drove toward home with different persuading strategies in mind. The actual convincing took place the following afternoon immediately upon waking up. After staring at my mobile phone for a long time, I finally sent a rather casual message to the first person I have to contact (I decided to text one person at a time so that I'll be able to change my strategy just in case :-) telling her that I'm the new member of this org and I was informed that she is also a member though inactive and is most welcome to come back. After several heart stopping minutes, my phone beeped to signify an unread message; I hastily opened my inbox and found out a positive reply. MY INVITATION HAS BEEN ACCEPTED! I savored that moment of triumph and proposed a meeting to her own bidding for the purpose of introducing her to the rest of the organization and was realized the following week.

And so, as many people say, "The rest is History" one awkward moment of hesitation and indecision translated into a risky move that brought about unmistakable bliss! As the world continues to turn and make strides, questions start to grace my mind, queries like "Is this for real?" "If this is real, is it bound to last?" And so the quest for answers has began and I'm hoping to endure the cudgels of life in order for me to live and tell the tale (for everyone to hear) of the greatest love story yet untold! :-)

The Dramatic Unfolding

Amidst the forlorn days that seem so eager to keep me company I have come to a fleeting realization that today is indeed Valentine's Day. Owing to the fact that the past few months had been filled with distractions and the schedule I have at hand doesn't seem to permit me to think about such things, I almost forgot to notice this once-a-year affair. Indeed for many this is an occasion to look forward to and I will not be the first to blame these people. Well in fact it brings a certain pronounced feeling of joy to me thinking that love still exists and continues to work, well if not for me, at least for other people.

Once a happier time when my idea of love isn't as deeply tainted as it is now I frequently find myself longing if not begging for that particular somebody to finally cross my path. I can safely claim at this moment that I have indeed come a long way to still think the same. For it is not advisable to just wait and depend on serendipity, I outsmarted that idea and since have come up with a realization that nothing in this world occurs by mere happenstance. There's no way this cruel world will give what you want to have just like that, you have to fight hard and take it.

I just found myself heaving a sigh, finding myself torn in a dilemma between letting this day pass just like that, or doing something extraordinary like perhaps letting that person know my well-thought intentions. One moment I find myself raring to do just that but one fleeting moment later I become indecisive thinking that the timing is awful and it's not yet time.

Well, it's indeed Valentine's Day; I hope Eros will forgive me for almost forgetting this day. On the other hand, I have a funny feeling that this will not be an ordinary outing, that I will be in for a treat. At least I never stopped feeling and hoping.

Constructing the Perfect Basketball Player (according to Kenny Smith)

Michael Jordan is often called the perfect player. If he wasn�t perfect, he was very close.

That got me wondering on how to construct the perfect player Frankenstein-style. Which parts of which players would I use?

The first part, which allows the body to function is the heart. This has to come from the player who has no fear of failure and a killer instinct: Kobe Bryant.

The brain obviously is also vital. I need someone who understands his strengths and limitations and also understands his players and coaches to a great degree. That�s Jason Kidd.

Vision helps separate the truly great players from the very good ones. And no one sees the floor quite like Steve Nash.

If this is going to be the perfect player, he shouldn�t lack for athleticism. Not only should he be able to go by people, but also through or over them. Give me LeBron James� combination of speed, quickness and muscle. There are faster players baseline to baseline than James, but they don�t have his size and leaping ability.

The hops go to Josh Smith. He�s the new-age Dominique Wilkins.

The strength of a basketball player is underrated. Skinny players like Reggie Miller and Rip Hamilton don�t need bulk to dart around screens. But give a player the strength of Dwight Howard and now you have a monster.

The longer the wingspan, the better the ability to grab rebounds, deflect passes and make other plays your opponents can�t make. So give me Kevin Garnett�s reach.

The best players shoot with a quick release. They can get off a shot while their defender is still flatfooted. Which is why I�ll need Ray Allen�s wrists.

Soft hands are essential. You want someone with a good touch who can catch all kinds of passes. That would be Tim Duncan.

The feet give you balance. They help you change direction, tightrope the baseline and stay in front of your man on defense. Give me the feet of Manu Ginobili.

The other parts that make up a great player aren�t as tangible. Like timing. The best shot blockers have great timing. Jump too soon and your opponent can duck into you and draw a foul. Jump too late and you�ll get dunked on. I want the timing of Marcus Camby.

Savvy comes from experience. The most battle-tested players know what to expect before it happens. And few players are more battle-tested than Chauncey Billups.

Patience is important. Great players know when to attack. They know how to set up their opponent with a fake. They don�t rush and they rarely force a bad shot. Is there anymore more patient than Duncan? He�s my first and only two-time part member.

Lastly, no one likes a sore loser or a bad winner. That�s why I value sportsmanship. To be a true winner, you have to be gracious. Like Michael Redd.

Now this is a player who�s truly the sum of his parts.

it has been a fun-filled ride!

Lately, i have been contemplating what to write on the empty spaces in my blog. In what i consider as a mediocre effort to write simple details about what's going on in my mundane existence, I have come up with a resolution that many things seem to be too good to pass up. Being somebody who despises half-baked works that are just done for the sake of completion, it is almost a given thing that I rarely write about a particular topic. There are just some things that I want to express for the simple reason that I don't want to keep these thoughts to myself.

Recently, I feel like a time-bomb raring to explode anytime. I'm itching to do something that unfortunately I am not able to determine. I am having a hard time finding my niche in this tumultuous and fast-paced society. Funny thing is amidst all the politics and influx of issues that I deem necesarry to address, I just can't pass up the idea of love (romantic love) and flush it out of my system. I have learned to accept that no matter how gargantuan the wave of issues that surround me it all boils down to reasserting my place in the field of relationships. I will still hold on to my statement: all that this world needs is love. Once it is given the right dosage of this certain passion, flowers will bloom everywhere, rivers will overflow that will lead to abundance, trees will kindle a certain lush never seen before and will give justice to a beauty that most of us have been longing to see.

As for me, I will hold to this feeling and am very much willing to hold on until eternity.

The Lark has finally landed but hasn't yet found her way unto me.

Taong 2004 nang sa hindi inaasahang paglalaro ng tadhana ay makapasa ako sa premyadong Unibersidad dito sa Pilipinas, ang Unibersidad ng Pilipinas sa Diliman. Edad labinlima ako ng mga panahong yun, malaro, inosente, at puno ng pananabik sa maraming mga bagay. Kagaya ng karamihan, ito ang unang pagkakataon na ako ay malayo sa aking pamilya at sa nakalakhan kong tahanan.

Buo ang aking loob na ang pagpunta ko sa lugar na ito ay pagbabasa ng aklat at pakikinig sa guro ang aking aatupagin. Sa kakarampot na nalalaman ko tungkol sa UP, tampulan daw ito ng mga madudunong na kabataan, ng mga taong nabiyayaan ng pambihirang karunungan at mga talento. Ang ideyang ito ay parte lamang pala ng mas malaking katotohanan. Ang maaliwalas na kapaligiran, malamig na simoy ng hangin at dagsa ng iba't-ibang katauhan buhat sa iba't-ibang dako ng kapuluan ay tunay ngang nagsilbing mga perpektong sangkap para sa isang natatanging kwento ng pag-ibig.

Napadpad ako sa isang dormitoryo na mas kilala sa tawag na Kalayaan, doon ay nagawa ko lahat ng mga bagay na gusto kong gawin, mga bagay na dati-rati ay sa panaginip ko lang nagagawa. Pagkatapos kong manawa sa paglalaro ng Battle Realms, Ragnarok, CounterStrike at DOTA isama na rin ang pusoy dos at poker, napansin ko ang kakulangan sa aking sistema. Baduy man sa pandinig ng karamihan ngunit napagtanto kong ito nga ang sinasabi nilang tawag ng pag-ibig. J Totoo ngang napakasarap ng pakiramdam, kapara ng sa mga nabasa kong nobela at romantikong pelikula.

Tandang-tanda ko pa kung pano nangyari. Isang maaliwalas na gabi noon nang mapatambay ako sa harap ng aming dorm. Pinapayagan pa kaming mga residenteng manood ng TV at makipagkwentuhan sa aming mga kaibigan basta't minimal lang ang ingay. Habang nilalasap ko ang pag-iisa sa isang sulok, binasag ng liwanag na nanggagaling sa isang taxi ang kadiliman. Bumaba mula sa sasakyan ang isang babaeng pumukaw sa aking katinuan. Mag-isa lamang sya at may bitbit na maliit na bag. Sa katunayan bihira lamang ang mga babaeng napaguukulan ko ng pangalawang titig maliban kung sya ay malapit na kaibigan ko. Sadyang nakakapagtaka kung bakit ako nakaramdam ng kakaiba sa presensya pa lamang ng babaeng ito. Lalo pa akong nabighani ng tuluyan na syang mapadako sa paanan ng hagdan at tuluyan na syang matamaan ng liwanag, Animo'y tumigil ang pag-inog ng aking mundo, sa kabuuan niyang bihis at postura at ang misteryong dala ng nakalugay niyang buhok na hanggang balikat ang haba ang sa kauna-unahang pagkakataon ay nagbigay sa akin ng konsepto ng "ideal woman", sopistikado at may kakaibang dating. Hindi ko din alam kung bakit at kinailangan ko pa munang maghintay ng buwan ng Marso bago ko nakuha ang cell no. nya na sa aking laking pasasalamat ay nakasulat sa aming yearbook. Nakakatawa at gawaing-bata talaga kung iisipin. Hanggang sa ngayon ganun pa rin an gaming relasyon, sa telepono madalas nagkakausap, nagpapalitan ng kuro-kuro at nagkakabatian, sa termino ng makabagong panahon ay "textmates" Masyadong "highschoolish" kung iisipin pero sa di- mawaring kadahilanan wala na akong maalalang napag-ukulan ko ng pangalawang-tingin kung hindi siya pa lang. :D
